When the end of the week approaches and it’s time to sit back and reflect on the past seven days, what comes to mind? The stress of the work week. The lack of sleep. The mediocre meals you’ve eaten if you’ve even had time to eat that week…
But what about the small moments that don’t make your end of the week recap? The moments that catch you off guard, that give you a slight glimmer of hope even if it’s oh so fleeting.
Yes, the big moments are obviously a big part of our lives, but I’m here to argue that the little things are just as important, if not more so. Being 24 years old, sometimes I find myself so busy that I’m just coasting through life; I’m forgetting to take a deep breath. I’m forgetting to a look at my surroundings (half the time I forget to even go outside…). I’m forgetting to dream big and dream often.I find myself wanting the end results and wanting those results now, that I sometimes forget to enjoy the journey that I’m on.
And that’s when I remember it’s time to step back and smell the roses (or in this case, the hydrangeas because roses are expensive and ain’t nobody got time for that). It’s time to look around me. To really look around me. It’s time to practice gratitude, to give thanks, and to be happy with my current situation and how I arrived here.
Because next thing you know, I’ll blink and I’ll be 85 years old wondering where my life went.
I may not be a millionaire, but I’m surrounded by friends that have enriched my life in ways that I’ll never be able to fully comprehend. I may not be a famous actress (yet 😉), but I’m having a blast getting to pursue my dream every day and to be in a city where chasing that dream is even a possibility. I may not live in a mansion, but my boyfriend and I have a charming apartment that we can call home.
I may not have roses, but I have hydrangeas, and they are just as good to me. Don’t let anyone or anything define your journey. It’s yours and it’s ultimately what you make it. So buckle up and enjoy the ride.
